Hedva Barenholtz Levy is the director of HbL PharmaConsulting, an independent senior-care pharmacy practice in St. Louis, MO, which she founded in 1996. She is a certified geriatric pharmacist and pharmacotherapy specialist, focusing on promoting the safe and effective use of medications among community-dwelling older adults. In addition to providing one-on-one consultations, Dr. Levy is a speaker at the local, regional, and national level to older adults, caregivers, and healthcare and nonhealthcare professionals, advocating for safe and appropriate medication use among older adults. She has published numerous articles on various pharmacy topics in peer-reviewed medical and pharmacy journals. She is the author of Maybe It’s Your Medications: How to Avoid Unnecessary Drug Therapy and Adverse Drug Reactions, published by Skyhorse Publishing in 2023. Dr. Levy is an adjunct instructor at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, and a past president of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, the professional organization representing senior care pharmacists.

Prior to moving to St. Louis, Dr. Levy implemented clinical pharmacy services at a 318-bed hospital in Ft. Thomas, KY from 1991 to 1995, and provided monthly drug regimen reviews at the hospital-based skilled nursing facility. During this time she also served as assistant editor for The Annals of Pharmacotherapy in Cincinnati. Dr. Levy obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Michigan in 1990. She completed a Clinical Pharmacy Residency at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in 1991. Dr. Levy is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy and is a certified geriatric pharmacist. She maintains memberships in 4 national and local professional organizations and is a licensed pharmacist in Missouri and Kentucky.
