Brenda Gurung (she/hers) is a Montessori-credentialed dementia specialist with 16 years of experience in senior living, specializing in behavioral expressions, communication, and caregiving methods. She is the National Director of Memory Care for Kisco Senior Living. Recognized as a Denver 7 ABC Everyday Hero, she is also a longtime Alzheimer’s Association educator and an organic gardener and beekeeper.

Brenda holds a number of credentials related to dementia and aging, including: Association Montessori Internationale Practitioner, ICCDP Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional Trainer, Virtual Dementia Tour Facilitator, Memories in the Making Certified Trainer.  She participated in the invitation-only immersive training with Memory Bridge and was previously a Certified Consultant through Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care.

“I’m often asked, Isn’t it depressing to work with people who are living with dementia? Absolutely not!” says Brenda.  “It’s an honor.  Individuals who are on a dementia journey invite us to be creative, to listen closely, to connect when there aren’t words, to laugh, to reminisce, to cry. Among my colleagues, connections and friends, we talk about the WHOLE-ness of individuals on a dementia journey.  They aren’t somehow less-than, because of their diagnosis.  In this session, we’ll discuss research, proven methods and how to work through common dementia symptoms. Whether you work with individuals on a dementia journey or their families, whether you have someone in your own life on a journey, or if you simply want to learn how to be a better neighbor, this session is meant for you.”
