Session Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the secondary market for life insurance and the trends contributing to its continued growth.
  2. Understand the factors that determine a policy’s value, and how to access it.
  3. Understand the opportunity that life settlements can provide your clients.

This presentation examines the trends driving the secondary market for life insurance’s continued growth and provides an overview of the five most common applications advisors use today. I will cover term settlements, policy replacement strategies, Retained Death Benefit options (with and without a cash settlement), and settlements for smaller face policies, using several case examples to illustrate the presented concepts. In addition, the seminar will discuss factors that determine a policy’s value and strategies for educating others about the opportunities presented by the market. Participants will learn the history and benefits of the secondary market in financial services and the life insurance industry. They will also understand the multitude of secondary market products, how to integrate them into everyday practice, and the tax implications of the secondary market. Additionally, I will cover common reasons policyowners decide to sell and how they frequently use the proceeds to help improve their lives.
